BOOTLEG
BOOTLEG FRIDAYS: A party with Feed the Herd consisting of a chatty Happy Hour followed by a pu-pu platter of short works presented in the Trilogy Theatre, followed by party atmosphere until the keg is dry. $5 admission, $5 for a cup
free admission for season-ticket holders
BOOTLEG, according to Webster's:
Function: noun (1634). 1 : the upper part of a boot. 2 : something bootlegged; specifically : MOONSHINE. 3 : a football play in which the quarterback fakes a handoff, hides the ball
against his hip, and rolls out -- compare DRAW 8
Function: verb (1900). transitive senses: 1 a : to carry (alcoholic liquor) on one's person illegally; b : to manufacture, sell, or transport for sale (alcoholic liquor) illegally. 2 a : to produce, reproduce, or distribute illicitly or without authorization; b : SMUGGLE. intransitive senses: 1 : to engage in bootlegging
2 : to run a bootleg play in football
Well, we're not the upper part of a boot. It is something bootlegged, but not specifically moonshine. It is definitely not a football play, but play
is involved and football is appreciated, among other sports; it is more like
the noun than the verb, because as far as anything illegal, that's for a
court to decide; and we're certainly not doing much without authorization
but definitely with power; and alcohol is consumed but not for sale (for the
court's records, madam, we are selling cups, and what the cup buyers decide
to do with them is their own business), but the Rheingold or New Amsterdam
or Bud is right there, depending on the choice for a particular bootleg
(email us if you have a preference, we try to be democratic, or diplomatic
at least). After all that definition relation, we're kinda bootleg about it:
the upper part of the boot doesn't really have a purpose except protect the
shins and look downright cool. And the relaxed atmosphere is conducive to
putting up a new work and not caring if it's polished; you get to see raw
new gutsy stuff; and you can like or hate it and still have a good time.
